Pledge on homelessness

Pledge on homelessness

focus-ireland-pledge-2014I was contacted in relation to the Focus Ireland pledge on homelessness. The pledge is that:

“I pledge to vote against any reduction in homeless services or budget until there is demonstrable reduction in the number of people who are homeless”

Since the bust, we’ve had an explosion of young men and women living on the streets and families who are without a home. It’s an issue that is intimately linked to the bust, in my opinion, even if it’s not always discussed in that light.

So, in the priority of things, it’s an immediate crisis that has to be addressed first as an emergency matter. In addition to the hardship and dangers that young men and women face, the situation of homeless families brings with it a whole lot of other very serious considerations.

I’ve put my name down for the pledge. With just a slightly different turn of events, any one of us could end up on the streets. We all have to look out for each other.
